Biography
Holt Lackey has built a career of fighting for underdogs, with an underlying passion for justice and equal rights. These values were instilled in him at an early age by his grandfather, himself a champion for underdogs, who served as one of Lyndon Johnson’s lawyers. Guided by these beliefs, Holt graduated from Northwestern University and returned home to Austin, Texas where he completed law school at the University of Texas.
Before launching the firm in 2022, Holt worked at one of Texas’s largest law firms and served as counsel to multiple congressional committees in Washington, D.C. His experience in high-stakes litigation and public policy gives him a deep understanding of how to navigate complex legal issues and advocate effectively.
While his work in the halls of power was fulfilling, it was steered by the privileged few who could afford “a seat at the table,” exposing how money and power influence systems. This often led to policy outcomes benefiting a few and not the greater good, with legal processes shaped by money rather than justice. This experience further instilled in him that all citizens deserve to be treated equally and that the law should offer a level playing field without fear or favor.
Emblazoned above the Supreme Court in Washington, DC is a phrase that reads “Equal Justice Under Law.” But the law often fails to live up to this ideal - and Holt believes that this ideal is worth fighting for.
“I used to work for the big guys, now I work for you.”
Holt founded Holt Major Lackey, PLLC to fight to make this ideal of equal justice a reality, and to provide the same high-level representation that the big and powerful enjoy to everyday people, small businesses, and non-profits.
His experience in corporate law firms and on Capitol Hill enable him to go toe-to-toe against the biggest law firms and corporations and win - even when being outspent. He has won justice for clients and causes repeatedly, including victims of discrimination, underpayment, and injury. He is committed to causes of equality and has served as Chair of Equality Texas, fighting for the rights of the LGBTQIA+ and other marginalized communities at the Texas Capitol.
Holt’s love of history and policy has taught him that equal treatment is not automatic, from abolition to civil rights to same-sex marriage. But sometimes to win a fight, you have to pick a fight.
